This contemporary lakeshore home in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont is all-electric, utilizing a high-performance building envelope and air source heat pumps for heating and cooling. The home includes a rooftop solar array to offset energy use and triple-glazed tilt-turn windows to limit heat loss and whole house ventilation. The design maximizes lake views and the flow of interior space to exterior decks, gazebo, and gardens. Additional design features included lofts in the bedrooms with high ceilings, an exterior sauna, and custom cabinetry throughout the residence.

This single-level, retirement home utilizes double stud wall construction, super insulation and air tightness, triple-glazed windows, and balanced ventilation to create a comfortable and beautiful update to a classic ranch home. The home offsets its all-electrical usage with a rooftop PV array and has a wood stove for backup on cold winter nights. Walkable to village conveniences, schools, stores, and public spaces, this home is Efficiency Vermont Certified.

This high-performance home is completely fossil-fuel free, using an air source heat pump for heating and cooling and heat recovery ventilation to ensure the house is provided with warm fresh air year-round. A 6.7 kW photovoltaic grid-tied solar array is expected to produce enough electricity to offset all of the home’s energy use. Other energy-efficient features include triple-pane windows, thermal bridge free assemblies with dense-pack cellulose insulation to achieve a high level of air tightness in the home.
